2016 Wimbledon Women’s Quarterfinals Experts Picks and Predictions

Wimbledon-2016_250x130

And we are down to the final eight at the All England Club. Unlike in the men’s singles division though, the defending champion—Serena Williams— over at the women’s side is still part of the mix and on track to retain her crown.

Williams, who hopes to equal Steffi Graf’s modern-era record 22 Grand Slam titles, is set to take on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the quarterfinals. The other three matches, meanwhile, involves Serena’s sister—Venus Williams—clashing with Yaroslava Schvedova, Angelique Kerber versus Simona Halep and Dominika Cibulkova against Elena Vesnina.

Having all of that said, the question now is: who among these quarter-finalists will move on to the semifinals? You can read on below and find out what some of the tennis experts around the world have to say about it.

Bleacher Report

Expert Prediction(s)
Matt Fitzgerald Serena Williams, Angelique Kerber, Venus Williams and Dominika Cibulkova

Bleacher Report’s Matt Fitzgerald played things safe by going with all the favorites. He notes, though, that all but the Serena Williams versus Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova match will be very tantalizing and could likely go beyond three sets.

Angelique Kerber is in for a dangerous showdown with Simona Halep. Those two have faced each other four times with the latter bagging in three wins. However, this will be the first time that both are going head-to-head in a major tournament and Kerber should have a slight advantage against the Romanian thanks to her first career major title a few months ago at Melbourne.

Venus Williams, on the other hand, has been defying Father Time. She’s set to make her first quarterfinal appearance at the All England Club since 2010, and has a real chance of making it to the next round. After all, the former World No. 1 has five Wimbledon titles under her belt already, and has regained her form lately. But her opponent—Yaroslava Schvedova—could still prove to be a handful as she has enough firepower to match up with the resurging 36-year-old American.

Lastly, both Dominika Cibulkova and Elena Vesnina needed an extra set to book a place in the quarterfinals. Those two should provide us an intriguing clash without a doubt, but the likeliest to move on is the former since Vesnina, who is making her first-ever Grand Slam quarterfinal debut, is in an unfamiliar territory.

FanSided

Expert Prediction(s)
Christopher Weis Serena Williams, Angelique Kerber, Venus Williams, Dominika Cibulkova

Christopher Weis of FanSided has the same sentiments. He’s not expecting any upsets at all. But even so, he also claims that each quarterfinals match should be at least very fun to watch.

In particular, Weis is highly intrigued with the bout between Simona Halep and Angelique Kerber. The two ladies have had successful careers, and both can actually be considered as the favorites. But Kerber has been playing much better throughout the tournament, though. And also, she did win her only encounter with Halep this year.

Moo’s Tennis Blog

Expert Prediction(s)
James Serena Williams, Angelique Kerber, Venus Williams and Dominika Cibulkova

Over at Moo’s Tennis Blog, things are exactly the same, too. All of the favorites are expected to move on to the next round of Wimbledon.

But keep in mind, anything can happen here. At this stage of such a prestigious tournament, it’s very possible to see the favored players to succumb to the pressure, or witness a surprising performance from the underdogs. This is one of the many things that every sports fan enjoys and loves seeing.

With that said, why don’t you create a betting account now and start cashing on all of the action at Wimbledon 2016.
