Sleeper Picks for the 2016 Malaysian Open

Kai-chen Chang

Kai-chen Chang may be one of the hottest sleepers in this tournament. She’s already on to the second round after upsetting No. 1 seed Roberta Vinci. Chang has plenty of upside in this tournament. She’s already showed her ability to beat the top players after her upset victory in the first round. But she’ll have to get past two more in the likes of Eugenie Bouchard and Sabine Lisicki.

Zhaoxuan Yang

2016 WTA BMW Malaysian Open Sleeper Picks and Predictions

Zhaoxuan Yang is another player who could make waves after a strong first round. She defeated eighth seed Saisai Zheng in three sets. She’s set to meet Brit Naomi Broady in the second round of the tournament. Yang is a strong pick in this tournament. She’s feeling right at home in Asia, while some of the Westerners may need a little bit more seasoning in a different continent.

Risa Ozaki

Riza Ozaki is riding the wave of two straight wins in the qualifiers heading into this match. She won two qualifying matches before beating Elizaveta Kulichkova in the first round of the tournament. But she’s in for quite a match next against second seed Elina Svitolina. If Ozaki can get past the second seeded Svitolina, then there should be little in her way en route to the tournament final.
