2017 ATP Aegon Championships Sleeper Picks and Predictions

Andy Murray is the big favorite once again for the 2017 ATP Aegon Championships. The Brit has won this event five times in the past eight years. But can someone from the field snap his streak of dominance and win the title? If so, here are three potential sleeper picks who might be able to get the job done.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Tsonga is having arguably his best ever season on tour. The 32-year-old has already claimed three titles this season: at the hard courts of Rotterdam and Marseille, as well as a clay court title at Lyon. However, he suffered quite a letdown as he was knocked out in the very first round at Roland Garros, which is something he will obviously want to make up for.

Although he has yet to win a tournament title on grass, the Frenchman is a force to be reckoned with on the surface and should not be slept on. He’s 44-18 in his career on grass, an impressive 71 percent win percentage.

John Isner

Isner will be up against it immediately at the Queen’s Club as his first round matchup will come against none other than World No. 8 Marin Cilic. The 32-year-old American is unsurprisingly a +160 underdog in that matchup, although don’t count him out by any means. Isner has actually taken the last two meetings against Cilic, including their most recent matchup at the Rome Masters.

If he successfully gets past the talented Croat, Isner has more than enough ability to go all the way. He’s an impressive 33-19 in his career on grass, and has won two titles.

Sam Querrey

Sam Querry is no stranger to taking down big names. He ran through the likes of Dominic Thiem, Nick Kyrgios, and Rafa Nadal en route to his first and only title of the season at Acapulco earlier this year.

Querrey hasn’t been too impressive ever since that big tournament win, but a return to his preferred grass court could see a change in his fortunes. The 29-year-old has a .613 win percentage on the surface, and his lone grass court title came at the Queen’s Club back in 2010.

At the very least, the American should make it to a possible second-round meeting with No. 1 seed Murray. Querrey is a huge -1,000 favorite over Cameron Norrie in the first round.
