There are a ton of reasons why Hamburg is a place to visit when in Germany. At least for this week, we could add tennis to the list, as the German Tennis Championships is set to parade some of the best talents of the sport. Let’s look at some of the names to watch out for in the tournament.

Pablo Cuevas

Cuevas has one singles title so far on the year and his search for a second one continues in Germany this week after a disappointing exit in Bastad last week. Cuevas had a mishap in the very first round of the ATP SkiStar Swedish Open, as the third-seed of the tournament fell to world  no. 100 Henri Laaksonen in straight sets, 6-4-6-3.  Cuevas, however, appeared in the finals of last year’s edition of this tournament, losing to Martin Klizan, 6-1, 6-4. Cuevas has been bugged with injuries this year, partly explaining his recent struggles but his strong track record on clay courts could point to a turnaround this week. Cuevas is 14-8 thus far this year and 21-8 in 2016 on the clay surface.

Albert Ramos-Vinolas

Ramos-Vinolas is winless to date this 2017 but he’s far from losing optimism entering the tournament in Hamburg. For one, he enjoys playing on clay courts, as what his 22-12 record on the surface this season suggests. He’s even reached the fourth round of this year’s French Open, where he made Novak Djokovic sweat after winning the first set of an eventual 6-7 (5-7), 1-6, 3-6 loss.

Karen Khachanov

No. 33 Khachanov looks to get more credits to climb a few spots up the ATP rankings, as he joins the competition in Hamburg this week. Khachanov was last seen in Bastad losing in the quarterfinals to Alexandr Dolgopolov. The 21-year-old Russian wouldn’t be fazed by anyone in the German Tennis Championship, considering he’s gone toe to toe recently with the likes of Rafael Nadal, Roger, and Andy Murray. Khachanov is 11-7 on ATP clay court matches this year.
