The fourth and final golf major of the season will be up for grabs this weekend as the 2017 PGA Championship tees off at Quail Hollow. The tournament promises to have another very competitive field which will be hard to choose a winner from. To help with that tough decision, let’s take a look at which players some top golf experts have selected as their champions/contenders.

Michael Bamberger – Rory McIlroy | Alan Shipnuck – Dustin Johnson |
Jeff Ritter – Rickie Fowler | Josh Sens – Jordan Spieth |
Sean Zack – Hideki Matsuyama | Joe Passov – Rory McIlroy |
None of the six experts over at Golf.com stuck his neck out too far with their picks to win the PGA Championship. Two of the six picked overall favorite Rory McIlroy (+600). The other four picks were for Jordan Spieth (+750), Dustin Johnson (+1,000), Hideki Matsuyama (+1,000), and Rickie Fowler (+1,500), who are all within the top five in overall odds.

Derek Clements of Golfshake also didn’t overthink matters as he went with Spieth to complete the career Grand Slam at Quail Hollow. The World No. 2 finished down at T13 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, snapping his two-game win streak after claiming the Travelers Championship and the British Open. But Clements believes Spieth will bounce back and outduels some tough competition to claim yet another major.

1. Rickie Fowler | 1. Dustin Johnson |
2. Hideki Matsuyama | 2. Rory McIlroy |
3. Xander Schauffele | 3. Jordan Spieth |
4. Kevin Kisner | 4. Henrik Stenson |
5. Jordan Spieth | 5. Jon Rahm |
Golf Digest columnist Joel Beall has picked his top five for this weekend, and while he had some usual suspects like Spieth, Fowler, and Matsuyama, he also came up with a couple of out-of-left-field-picks in Xander Schauffele and Kevin Kisner.
The 23-year-old Schauffele has been in outstanding form, finishing in the top 20 in five of his last six starts. That includes victory at the Greenbrier Classic. Schauffele is a +10,000 long shot to win his first major at Quail Hollow, but with the way he’s been playing at the moment, he’s certainly worth a shout.
But while Beall has gone with golfers who excel on their approach with the irons, golf statistician Lucius Riccio’s numbers-based model has favored players who have the ability to send the ball very far with their drivers (i.e. Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, and Jon Rahm, who is a +2,200 contender for the title).
