Favorites
Rickie Fowler (+750)
Fowler is coming off another close call at the US Open the previous weekend. After a smoking-hot start, Fowler cooled off significantly and could only finish T5. That’s now his 6th career top-five finish at a major, but still has no title to show for it.
Nevertheless, Fowler is in the midst of a very good season, and should strongly be considered as one of the favorites at the TPC Potomac. Fowler has finished in the top-five in three of his last seven tournaments, and also has the one win this season at the Honda Classic back in February. He finished second in this tournament back in 2015.
Justin Thomas (+1,100)
Thomas surprisingly missed the cut at the Travelers Championship. He had been in such fine form heading into that tournament, with three top-10 finishes in his last four starts, including a T9 at the US Open.
Don’t expect Thomas to miss another cut, though. Instead, look for the 24-year-old to bounce right back and be right in contention for another win. Thomas already has three of those this season, which is why he’s currently ranked third in the FedEx Cup standings. He also had a strong T4 finish at the Quicken Loans Classic back in 2015.
Patrick Reed (+1,400)
Patrick Reed is finally perking up after a very slow start to the season. The 26-year-old finished T55 at the Travelers Championship last weekend, which comes on the heels of his strong T13 showing at Erin Hills. Reed is quite familiar with this course and finished T11 back in 2014, so he should be right there in the running all weekend long.
Sleeper
Bill Haas (+2,500)
No one in their right mind should be sleeping on Bill Haas. The 35-year-old is coming off a T5 finish at the US Open, one of his best results of the year. That should serve as a very nice warm-up for the Quicken Loans National, where Haas has excelled at in recent years.
Haas finished four shots back at T3 last year, was T4 along with Thomas in 2015, and won the whole thing back in 2013 when it was still named the AT&T National. If that track record isn’t enough to put a bet on him, then what will?
Long Shot
David Hearn (+8,000)
Hearn is having quite an impressive run of form recently. The 38-year-old Canadian has finished in the top-10 in back-to-back tournaments. He went T10 at the St. Jude Classic, and followed that up with an even better T8 at the Travelers Championship last weekend.
It’ll be quite a surprise if Hearn does end up winning the Quicken Loans National; it’ll be the very first Tour win of his career. But he did finish a respectable T12 last year, and with the way he’s been playing at the moment, this might be as good a time as any for him to get that first ever title.
