FAVORITES
Jon Rahm (+400)
How can you not like the chances of Rahm topping the field this week again? The Spaniard has won his last two PGA TOUR starts. Last week, he went 27-under 261 to bag the crown in The American Express 2023. He’s 3/3 this season, with each of those starts earning him a place inside the top four. Moreover, Rahm has cracked the top 10 in five of six starts at Torrey Pines (South Course), which includes his win in the 2017 edition of the Farmers Insurance Open.
Collin Morikawa (+1400)
Morikawa did not play in the Sony Open in Hawaii and in The American Express, so he’ll be well-rested when he tees off this week at Torrey Pines (South Course). The 25-year-old Morikawa is a perfect 4/4 this season with a runner-up finish in his last start, which was in the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions earlier this month. His only start so far in his PGA TOUR career at Torrey Pines (South Course) was in the 2021 US Open when he finished fourth overall.
Justin Thomas (+1400)
Thomas is returning to action after taking a rest for the last two weeks. He’s looked generally fine when he’s playing this season, having made the cut in the two events he’s seen action so far. In his most recent start, he garnered a T25 in the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions. Last season, he went 19/21 with three top 3s and 10 top 10s, including a win in the 2022 PGA Championship.
HIGH-VALUE SLEEPERS
Patrick Rodgers (+9000)
Here’s what we said about Rodgers in our 2023 Farmers Insurance Open Sleepers piece:
Rodgers missed the cut at The American Express 2023, but that was only his first after making the cut in seven consecutive PGA TOUR starts this season. Overall, he is 7/9 with two top 10s, with his best finish to date being a T3 in the 2023 Butterfield Bermuda Championship. Also, before failing to make it to Sunday in The American Express, Rodgers had a two-start streak of finishing inside the top 20 with a T16 in the 2023 Cadence Bank Houston Open and a T10 in The RSM Classic 2023.
Scott Stallings (+10000)
Here’s what we said about Stallings in our 2023 Farmers Insurance Open Sleepers piece:
Stallings is a perfect 5/5 so far in the 2022-23 PGA TOUR season after going with a T25 in the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions. He did not see action in the next two events, but that shouldn’t diminish his value as a sleeper. For one, Stallings has quite the experience in playing at Torrey Pines (South Course). In fact, he is 6/11 there and has made the cut in three of his last four appearances at the said course. Stallings had a stretch in 2014 and 2015 when he finished first and second, respectively, in the Farmers Insurance Open in the same location.
LONG SHOTS
Sam Ryder (+22500)
At long odds of +22500 to win the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open, it seems that Ryder is going to need something next to a miracle to pull off a win this weekend. He’s missed the cut in each of his last three starts. If anything, he’s got a lone top-10 so far, thanks to a T18 in the 2022 World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba.
MJ Daffue (+25000)
Daffue is 4/9 so far this season and is coming off a missed cut in The American Express 2023.
Writer’s Prediction
Collin Morikawa wins the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open.
