There is money to be made in the Lone Star State. The Shell Houston Open boasts a total purse of $7 million, with a hefty $1.26 million of that pot going to the eventual winner. That’s excellent news for the 144-man field considering the total payout last year amounted to only $6.8 million. To put into perspective the difference in winnings, defending champion Jim Herman (+7,000) earned $1.224 million in prize money last year.
