There’s no hotter driver at this very moment than Kyle Larson, who won his first race of the season this past Sunday at the Auto Club 500.
The youngster will look to maintain his torrid start to 2016 going this weekend at Martinsville Speedway for the STP 500, and it’s clear that he’s one of the favorites heading into the event. However, do the great majority of pundits from the web also agree to that notion like when they were all on board with Larson last week?
Let’s find out below as for who the experts predicted will hoist the grandfather clock trophy after what should be another thrilling race at The Paperclip.

Chad Robb | Joey Logano |
Last week, Fox Sports’ Chad Robb was one Larson’s most vocal backers. This time around, though, he sided with Joey Logano – currently priced at +750 to win the STP 500 – and his decision is a sound one at that.
Robb stated that Logano is the best in Martinsville when it come to track positioning, with the Team Penske standout having a superb average starting position of 1.4 on the track. And with that sort of head start, Logano also ended up leading the most laps at The Paperclip over the last four races, and he’s also led no less than 20 laps in each of his last six appearances on the course.

Mike Hutton | Kyle Larson |
Over at Beyond the Flag, Mike Hutton has yet to dethrone Kyle Larson (+1,000) from the top spot of his weekly power rankings. And why would he? The 24-year-old up-and-comer just notched his first victory of the season last week at Fontana, and he’s finished no worse than second place in all four of his previous starts.
That goes without saying that Larson has had promising results in Martinsville as well. He finished third at the STP 500 last season and has secured top-20 finishes in all three of his last races on the course.
TopBet
As much as we’d love to see Larson continue his winning ways this weekend, we here at TopBet ultimately went with Joey Logano as our pick (as found in our very own STP 500 preview) not just because we believe that a seventh victor will be crowned in as many races this season, but also because the Connecticut native will definitely be itching to win his first-ever grandfather clock trophy.
Logano’s body of work at Martinsville isn’t as impressive as the other veterans’, but four top-5 finishes and three poles are still worthy credentials nonetheless. Throw in his stellar track positioning on the course as mentioned earlier, and we may very well see “Sliced Bread” atop the winner’s podium this Sunday indeed.
