The Total Payout

With a total purse amounting to $7.5 million and support from one of the country’s biggest financial institutions, it stands to good reason that the Wells Fargo Championship is one of the more profitable non-major, non-WGC tournaments on the PGA Tour calendar. In fact, this week’s event shares the same purse value as another prestigious tournament, the AT&T Byron Nelson, and it even has a larger pot compared to another famous AT&T-sponsored event held earlier this February in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am ($7.2 million).

What’s better is that this year’s edition of the Wells Fargo Championship saw an increase of $200,000 in total prize money from last season. In turn, this Sunday’s winner will take home 18 percent of the total purse, which amounts to a cool $1.35 million. That’s about 40 Gs more than what was written on the massive check for 2016’s champion, James Hahn (1,314,000).
