Pro Golf Now

Expert Winner
Sam Belden Dustin Johnson

Taking the top spot of Pro Golf Now’s weekly power rankings is the current leader in the FedExCup standings, Dustin Johnson. Sam Belden, Fansided’s trusted golf analyst, certainly has good reason to go gaga over Johnson this week, as the South Carolina native is hot off back-to-back victories at Pacific Palisades and Mexico – the latter being another WGC event at that.

Belden also went on to mention that Johnson’s excellent form of late didn’t come out of nowhere. Save for having been uncharacteristically cut from the Farmers Insurance Open in January, DJ has still garnered no less than a top-six finish in six of his last seven starts. Having finished a solid fifth in Austin last year is also a nice plus for Johnson’s backers willing to take on his cool price of +700 at becoming the next WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play champion.

Golf News Net

Expert Winner
Golf News Net Rory McIlroy

The team over at Golf News Net, meanwhile, declared Rory McIlroy as this week’s overall favorite. Although Wee-Mac has spent most of the season on the sidelines dealing with a rib injury, the folks at GNN are still very high on his past couple of outings since his return to action.

In two tournaments from earlier this month, the famed Irishman nabbed top-10 finishes in both of them: T7 at WGC-Mexico and T4 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Furthermore, he has top-10 finishes in his last four starts, which began with a victory from last season’s TOUR Championship in September. As such, those fantastic performances in spite of nagging heath-related issues pretty much justifies why the oddsmakers also chose McIlroy as the front-runner at +600 this week to hopefully avenge his close loss to Jason Day in the tournament’s final round from the previous year.

Today’s Golfer

Expert Winner
Camilla Tait Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Jordan Spieth

Last but not least, Camilla Tait of UK publication Today’s Golfer couldn’t decide between the PGA Tour’s four horsemen of sorts: Johnson, McIlroy, Jason Day and Jordan Spieth. After all, these modern-day greats have each made compelling cases to not just win this week’s tournament, but pretty much dominate the entire season. Since we’ve already tackled DJ and Rory earlier, let’s examine the outlook for the other two standouts.

Day is the reigning WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play champion, who’s also had great success at this event in general with wins in two of the last three seasons. As a matter of fact, the Aussie is one of only three golfers in PGA Tour history to have won the tournament on more than one occasion. This makes Day’s price of +1,200 at successfully defending his title terrific in value, especially considering his up-and-down 2016-17 campaign thus far.

Spieth (+900), on the other hand, will counter with his fantastic overall form heading into this week’s tournament. The Dallas native has an on-going streak of 11-straight starts resulting in top-25 finishes dating back to the PGA Championship last July, with a win at Pebble Beach and four of his six top-10 finishes during than span coming from this year alone. In that regard, Spieth’s arguably the most consistent of the four heavyweights this week; not to mention that the fans in Austin will definitely be cheering loudly for their hometown hero to win it all this Sunday.
