2017 Wimbledon Purse Breakdown
The Total Payout
There is money to be made at the All England Club. The 2017 Wimbledon Championships boasts a total purse of £31.6 million, with this year’s singles champions receiving £2.2 million each. That’s excellent news for the field considering the total payout last year amounted to only £28.1 million. To put into perspective the difference in winnings, 2016 singles champions Andy Murray and Serena Williams earned just £2 million last year. The biggest beneficiaries of this prize increase, however, are the first round losers. Their prize money of £35,000 is almost 17 percent higher than last year. Since 2011, first round prize money in this event has more than trebled (from £11,500 to £35,000).
