FAVORITES
Rory McIlroy (+700)
The Northern Irishman is currently the king of the golf world, based on the facts that he’s the reigning FedExCup champion and the PGA TOUR Player of the Year. That’s not to mention that he’s also ranked third on the FedExCup leaderboard for the current season. McIlroy failed in Orlando last week to get his second win of the season, but he finished with a still admirable T5. He’s now finished T5 or better in each of his past seven starts. And oh by the way, he’s also the reigning champion at TPC Sawgrass, so look for him to put up another splendid performance.
Jon Rahm (+1200)
Rahm has zero victories on the season, but he’s constantly put himself in great position to win. At the World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship back in late February. Rahm managed a T3, his second top 3 finish so far this year. Rahm has four top 10s overall this season, including a runner-up campaign at the Farmers Insurance Open last January.
Brooks Koepka (+2000)
Koepka is still in the process of recapturing the form he had last year, when he was a dominant force at almost any tournament he played. Koepka, who recently just recovered from a knee surgery is coming off a disappointing T47 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but there’s a feeling that we’re all just waiting for his eventual return to his former self.
HIGH-VALUE SLEEPERS
Xander Schauffele (+2500)
Schauffele is going to play in only his third start at the PLAYERS Championship. He also was just a T56 last year’s edition of the PLAYERS Championship. Nevertheless, Schauffele has been a runner-up of the tournament once and also has won four PGA TOUR events in his young career to date.
Collin Morikawa (+5000)
Morikawa is doing a sensational job — outside of winning. Morikawa has made the cut 21 straight times, including in last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, wherein he finished with a T9. Morikawa has three top 10s and seven top 25s in 11 starts this season. The golf world may have something special brewing in this 23-year-old Los Angeles, California native.
LONG SHOTS
Tyrrell Hatton (odds)
You may have heard the name recently. After all, Hatton was the long shot who won the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational. Hatton was going to have success with how he played in tournaments prior to his win at Bay Hill. He was a T6 at the World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship, a T14 at the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions, and a T6 at THE CJ CUP @ NINE BRIDGES.
Charley Hoffman (odds)
After back-to-back cuts, Hoffman had a T13 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week. Could it be a sign of better things to come for the 43-year-old pro?
Writer’s Prediction
