Beginners Guide to Betting on March Madness – Infographic

There are five different kinds of bets on TopBet’s online sportsbook for March Madness – Point Spread, Money, Over-Under, Futures and Props. Here’s a quick rundown of how each one works.

POINT SPREAD

The Point Spread bet is probably the most famous when it comes to sports betting. First, you take a look at which team is the FAVORITE and which team is the UNDERDOG. In other words, the Favorite is most likely to win. While the loser, is the squad most likely to lose.

The teams will have a number in front of their name. The Fav’s will have a minus (-) in front of their point total (example: Kentucky -7). This means if you bet on Kentucky and they win by 7 or more, you’ll win your bet. If they win by less than 7 or lose though, you lose too.

It’s a similar concept for the underdogs. Say for example, Xavier has a +7 next to their name, they are likely to lose by that price according to the bookmakers. So, if you pick Xavier and they lose by 7 or more, you lose. However, if they win or lose by 7 or less or win, you win!

MONEY

The money line is very simple. In fact, it’s almost too simple – if that makes sense. All you do is pick who you think will win. That’s it.

Told you it was simple.

OVER-UNDER

The Over-Under is a fun one and is a March Madness favorite. You tally up the total between the teams at the end of the game and then you put that number against the betting total listed.

So for example, if the Kentucky-Xavier game has a total of 68.0 points and you bet the Over, you win if the combined score is higher. If it’s Under, you lose.

FUTURES

A Futures bet is a good time, however it is for the patient-at-heart. Yes it’s a major virtue because you’re picking the ultimate winner long before the tourney ends. The sooner you pick your favorite team, the better the odds will be. If you pick them close to the date of the finals, you probably won’t find the greatest odds.

Have a good feeling about a team at the start of the tournament though? Put your money where your mouth is and cash in!

PROPS

Bet on anything and everything…if it’s listed. TopBet has always been known for it’s elaborative and extremely random prop bets. We have some of the best Props in the US of A and we’re damn proud of it!

A Prop bet could be anything, honestly. Will this player pull down more than 11 rebounds tonight? Will this player tally over seven assists? Will this player have his socks pulled high or low? Will this team distract a free throw shooter with a fake pregnancy?

Now go enjoy the Madness! Game on!
