Betting on the Kentucky Wildcats (-4.0)
Record: 21-11 Overall/12-6 Conference
Kentucky did not have the smoothest of rides in the regular season and is also coming off a loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores in the SEC tournament. But Kentucky is Kentucky. It’s still got a great head coach in John Calipari and a roster full of very good talents, headed by no other than double-double machine Oscar Tshiebwe, who won the National college player of the year in 2022 and is averaging 16.5 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. Three other Kentucky players are also averaging double-digit scoring. No wonder the Wildcats are 14th nationally with 117.4 points per 100 possessions adjusted.
Kentucky is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall.
Betting on the Providence Friars (+4.0)
Record: 21-11 Overall/13-7 Conference
Providence will enter the NCAA tournament wobbling. The Friars have lost all of their last three games, including the one last Friday against the UConn Huskies in the Big East tourney to the tune of a 73-66 score. But despite their recent struggles, Providence can’t be ignored entirely by the Wildcats. Providence is a threat because it’s a team that can keep up offensively, at least, with the best-scoring teams in the nation. The Friars are 28th overall with 78.1 points per game and 16th with 116.9 points per 100 possessions adjusted. The Friars are shooting just 45.9 percent from the field, but are 16th overall with a 35.2 ORB%.
The Over is 6-1 in Providence’s last seven games.
Writer’s Prediction
Providence wins, 78-76.
