Betting on the Providence Friars (odds)
Record: 14-4 Overall/6-1 Conference
The Friars saw their scorching hot win streak end last Saturday in a 73-67 road loss to the Creighton Bluejays. That was Providence’s first loss after winning nine games in a row. Nevertheless, the Friars saw star big man Bryce Hopkins come up with a solid outing, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in a double-double performance that he could ride on as momentum heading into the rematch against Marquette. Hopkins had 29 points and 23 rebounds in 47 minutes in Providence’s 103-98 double-overtime victory at home over the Golden Eagles back in December. Marquette’s leaky defense could turn into a punching bag again for Hopkins and the Friars, who are averaging 79.2 points per game – 25th in the nation overall.
Providence is 9-1 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Marquette Golden Eagles (odds)
Record: 14-5 Overall/6-2 Conference
Marquette is also coming off a loss, as the Golden Eagles suffered an 80-76 road defeat at the hands of the Xavier Musketeers last Sunday. Prior to that, Marquette had won five game in a row. Despite the loss, the high-scoring ways of the Golden Eagles were on display yet again in that contest. On the season, Marquette is averaging over 80 points per game. The Golden Eagles have five players averaging at least nine points per game this seaspon and three with at least 12 points per outing. Any one of those players can take over a game, and that includes Tyler Kolek, who just scored 25 points in the Xavier game. He had 29 points in the first meeting with Providence.
Marquette is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
