Betting on the Marquette Golden Eagles (odds)
Record: 19-5 Overall/11-2 Conference
The Golden Eagles just keep on soaring. Riding a five-game win streak, Marquette will look to continue their winning ways when it faces off with the Huskies, whom the Golden Eagles defeated on Jan. 11 at home, 82-76. Marquette’s high-scoring offense has been a problem for the rest of the Big 12. It is averaging 115.4 points per 100 possessions adjusted and nearly 80 points per outing. In the win against UConn, the Golden Eagles shot 50.8 percent from the floor, with big man Oso Ighodaro coming up with 19 points. The Golden Eagles are also No. 2 in the nation with a 58.4 effective field goal percentage, thanks to a 2-point shooting that is having success 60.4 percent of the time.
Marquette is 8-2 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Connecticut Huskies (odds)
Record: 18-6 Overall/7-6 Conference
The Huskies finally have a winning streak going for them again. For the first time since late last December, UConn has won two games in a row when they beat the DePaul Blue Demons and the Georgetown Hoyas both on the road last Tuesday and Saturday, respectively. While DePaul and Georgetown are two of the three worst teams in the Big East based on conference records, the experience of winning is still a big shot in the arm of UConn, which is a great offensive-rebounding team. In fact, it is 10th nationally with a 37 ORB%. The Huskies’ rebounding will be crucial in denying Marquette’s efficient offense from getting extra possessions.
The Over is 3-1 in Connecticut’s last four games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
UConn wins, 79-75.
