Betting on the Edmonton Oilers (-1.5)
Regular Season Record: 50-23-9
Despite the offensive explosion of Leon Draisaitl , the Oilers still fell short in Game 1 of this series, as they lost to the Golden Knights, 6-4. Draisaitl scored not once, twice, or just thrice in the series opener. He racked up a total of four goals against Vegas, albeit in a losing cause. Nevertheless, Edmonton will continue to be a handful for the Golden Knights’ defense. The Oilers, who went 2/3 on the power play in Game 1, are No. 1 among all playoff teams with a lethal 57.9 percent power play success rate in the postseason. They are also 5-1 in their last six games after two days of rest.
Betting on the Vegas Golden Knights (+1.5)
Regular Season Record: 51-22-9
The Golden Knights are still, well, golden. They have not lost since dropping their series opener against the Winnipeg Jets in the first round, as they have won all of the next five contests, including Wednesday’s taming of Edmonton. Ivan Barbashev got first-star honors in Game 1 with two goals, while Chandler Stephenson and Mark Stone were the second and third stars of the game, respectively. Stone is leading the Golden Knights with 10 points so far in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. As a team, Vegas is leading the postseason with 4.17 goals for per contest, and it was also a good sign for the team that it outshot Edmonton in Game 1, 34-27.
The Golden Knights are 20-8 in their last 28 games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
The Golden Knights win, 4-3.
