TV Broadcast: FS1

Betting on the Marquette Golden Eagles (+4.0)

Record: 25-7 Overall/13-7 Conference

The Golden Eagles booked a spot in the semifinals of the Big East tournament with a 72-70 win on Thursday over the St. John’s Red Storm. Marquette is not a bubble team this March and it virtually is headed to the Big Dance thanks to a strong regular season, but it still can use a win against a team like the Huskies for a chance for a higher seed in the NCAA tournament. The Golden Eagles have a 1-1 record this season against Connecticut with their win coming last January at home when they downed the Huskies, 82-76. Marquette is a high-scoring team that can get hot quickly and put up buckets in bunches. It was 12th nationally in the regular season with 80.7 points per game.

The Golden Eagles are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 Friday games.

Betting on the Connecticut Huskies (-4.0)

Record: 26-6 Overall/17-3 Conference

UConn has not lost for six games in a row now after the Huskies defeated the Providence Friars on Thursday, 73-66. Jordan Hawkins led the Huskies in that game with his scoring prowess, recording 19 points to go with four rebounds, while Tristen Newton came off the bench and fired 16 points. Overall, UConn shot 52.8 percent from the field to come away with a win. The Huskies are hoping they stay hot from deep when they meet Marquette after draining 13 of 30 3-point attempts in the Providence game. That kind of outside shooting and their usually strong rebounding plus stout defense are going to be crucial for the Huskies, who ranked first in the Big East back in the regular season with a 40.1 ORB% and second in defensive effective field goal percentage (46.9%).

UConn is 5-0 against the spread in its last five games.

Writer’s Prediction

UConn wins, 79-75.
