The dream is almost a reality. The 2015-16 Premier League title is basically Leicester City’s to lose. The Foxes currently have a seven-point lead over second-place Tottenham with just three matches remaining. They only need to pick up three more points from those three games (at Man United, vs. Everton, and at Chelsea) or hope Tottenham drops more points in order to clinch the title, which should be very manageable.
It’ll also help their ability to clinch now that Spurs will be without Dele Alli for the remainder of the season for punching an opponent. Spurs basically need to win all three of their remaining matches to stand any realistic shot at overtaking Leicester, and they don’t figure to do that without one of their best players.
Instead of continuing to challenge for the title, they are more likely to slip down from their current second-place position. None of their final three games are particularly easy, seeing as their two away foes – Chelsea (a city rival) and Newcastle (fighting relegation) – should be fully motivated to play well against them.
With Spurs likely dropping points, Manchester City will have the chance to swoop in and reclaim second place. (We predict that goal difference will be the deciding factor.) Their two remaining opponents away from home (Southampton and Swansea) don’t have anything to play for, and they’ll be at home against Arsenal. They should be able to beat Arsenal at home, and keep the Gunners down in the fourth and final Champions League place.
