Betting on the Detroit Tigers (odds)
Regular Season Record: 37-55
The Tigers are looking to start the second half of the 2022 MLB regular season way the complete opposite way of how they ended the first half. Detroit is on a four-game losing skid, having been swept by the Cleveland Guardians in a three-game series on the road which came after a 5-2 loss to the Kansas City Royals, also on the road. The Tigers are just 27th in the league with a .229 batting average and 30th with only 3.13 runs per game. However, the Tigers might not need much offensively to beat the A’s, who aren’t that explosive at the plate, either, as Oakland is hitting just .211 this year, so far. Miguel Cabrera and Javier Baez headline the run support system of the Tigers after posting .670 OPS and .626 OPS in the first half, respectively. Those are not scintillating numbers, but are the best among qualified Tigers hitters.
Betting on the Oakland Athletics (odds)
Regular Season Record: 32-61
The Athletics are virtually out of playoff contention as they are only winning 34.4 percent of the time so far this year. They are also 28 games behind the American League West division leader Houston Astros. That being said, the Athletics won two of three games in their final series before the 2022 MLB against the heavyweight Astros. That should give the A’s some nice momentum heading to this date with the Tigers. Expected to start Thursday for Oakland is Zach Logue, who is 3-4 with a 5.16 ERA and 1.45 WHIP this season. He pitched for five innings and allowed just 2 earned runs on 3 hits in the A’s 3-2 home win over Houston on July 9. Sean Murphyand Seth Brown headline the run support system of the Athletics after recording OPS numbers of .717 and .665 in the first half, respectively, while combining for 19 home runs and 74 RBIs.
Writer’s Prediction
The Tigers win, 3-2.
