Brazil vs. Peru – 2016 Copa America – Group B Predictions and Betting Preview – June 12, 2016

It’s going to be one explosive showdown when the top two teams of Group B meet Sunday night. Brazil could advance as long as they avoid a loss. The Brazilians’ superior goal differential will send them to the quarterfinals with a draw. A tie would be no good for Peru if Ecuador defeat Haiti by two or more goals in another pivotal Group B match. Only a victory will guarantee Peru a chance to advance.

Betting on Brazil (-261)

Brazil disappointed in a scoreless draw in their tournament opener against Ecuador on June 4. The draw was enough motivation for them to unleash their fury against Haiti, as they erupted for a 7-1 victory. A Selecao didn’t mess around, taking a 3-0 lead before halftime and led 5-0 before conceding Haiti’s only goal. Philippe Coutinho was easily the man of the match with his hat trick.

A Selecao have a variety of viable scorers even in the absence of Neymar, Douglas Costa and Oscar. Aside from Coutinho, Renato Agusto (twice), Gabriel and Lucas Lima also scored against Haiti. With a variety of different scorers, Brazil should be able to find the back of the net against a Peru side that allowed two goals against Ecuador on Wednesday.

Brazil have outscored Peru 6-2 over a 2-0-1 span.

Betting on Peru (+535)

Peru are in hot water heading into the final game of their group stage campaign after a 2-2 draw against Ecuador on June 8. Only a victory will ensure them a spot in the quarterfinals of Copa America Centenario. The Peruvians were disappointing in their draw against Ecuador, blowing an early two-goal lead courtesy of Christian Cueva and Edison Flores.

Things won’t get any easier for Peru, facing a Brazil squad that has gone 30-3-9 against them since 1936. Paulo Geurrero is the team’s go-to guy with 27 goals in 69 career caps. He has a lot of work to do considering that no one among his teammates have more than three international goals.

Los Incas could still salvage a result against almighty Brazil despite the odds. Ecuador showed that the Brazilians aren’t invulnerable in a scoreless draw earlier in the tournament. Brazil scored seven goals their last time out, but that match was against bottom-feeders Haiti. Peru may be inexperienced and lack star-power, but they’re still a far better team than Haiti.
