Betting on the Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto continues to cling onto top spot in the AL East. The Jays currently hold a slim half-game advantage over the second-place Orioles. And needless to say, every win is going to be crucial for the Blue Jays, who are hoping that R.A. Dickey (8-12, 4.61 ERA) can put on a show on the mound in tonight’s opener against the Yankees.Dickey, unfortunately, has been struggling as of late. He’s allowed four or more runs in four of his last five starts. That stretch includes a lackluster performance against the Rays on Monday, during which the right-handed veteran logged 4 1/3 innings, which was his second shortest outing of the season, of four-run ball. Toronto won that game though, 7-5, thanks to some clutch production at the plate.
Speaking of which, the Blue Jays, who are averaging 4.77 runs per game, will look to Josh Donaldson and Edwin Encarnacion to deliver the goods on offense as always. The two have already combined for 61 homers, 176 runs batted in and 246 hits on the season.
Encarnacion, specifically, heads into Yankee Stadium with a pretty hot bat. He’s 6-of-10 with two doubles, two home runs and three RBIs in his last three games.
Betting on the New York Yankees
The Yankees, meanwhile, are looking to bounce back from a lopsided loss to the Rays yesterday. And in order to do so, an excellent showing from Chad Green (1-2, 4.94 ERA), who was called up to the big leagues again to start in tonight’s opener against the visiting Blue Jays, is necessary.
Green has accumulated four starts and four bullpen starts this season. His last start, however, was back in the first week of July against the Indians and things didn’t go as planned to say the least. The rookie was rocked for five hits and seven earned runs.
In case Green does struggle again, the pressure is definitely on the Yankees’ offense to answer the call at the plate. That said, expect Didi Gregorius to lead the charge in doing so. The sweet-hitting shortstop, who’s hitting .288 this season, is sizzling right now. He’s 8-of-27 with three homers and four RBIs in his last seven games. He’s also looking to keep his five-game hitting streak alive later.
