There is money to be made at Flushing Meadows. The total prize-money compensation for the year’s final Grand Slam will be $46.3 million, up by 10 percent from last year’s purse. Of that total, a record $3.5 million will go to both the men’s and women’s singles champions. That’s a $200,000 bump up from the prize money received by last year’s champions, Novak Djokovic and Flavia Pennetta.

The prize money a player receives for the 2016 US Open will depend on the round he finishes in. Obviously, the deeper one goes in the tournament, the bigger the size of his share of the purse. Meanwhile, the losing finalists shouldn’t feel too bad, since they will also take home seven figures. The runner-up will get $1.75 million – that’s half of the winner’s share. US Open semifinalists will go home happy as well as they will earn $875,000.
