Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Yankees (7:00 PM ET)
Line: Los Angeles Dodgers (-135) at New York Yankees (+125); total: 8.5 – view all MLB lines
Pitching for Los Angeles in this interleague matchup is Julio Urias (5-2, 3.69 ERA). The 20-year-old has not appeared in a game since September 2 as the Dodgers were forced to scratch him last week due to bruised fingers on his throwing hand. He was solid in his last start, allowing just two runs on three hits in 5.1 innings of action in the Dodgers’ 4-2 loss to the San Diego Padres. Urias will need to work on his road form, though, if he is record to his sixth win of the season tonight. He has surrendered five homers in 32 innings away from home this campaign.
As for the Yankees, they will have CC Sabathia (8-12, 4.27 ERA)as their pitcher tonight. The veteran lefty lasted just four innings Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays, surrendering three runs on seven hits while striking out four without a walk. Sabathia, who surrendered three solo homers in that contest, has now given up at least one home run in eight of his last nine starts.
Writer’s Prediction
The Yankees edge past the Dodgers, 4-3.
New York Mets vs. Washington Nationals (7:05 PM ET)
Line: New York Mets (-135) at Washington Nationals (+125); total: 7.5 – view all MLB lines
Pitching for the Mets in the second game of this three-game set is Noah Syndergaard (13-8, 2.48 ERA). He was superb in his last outing, throwing five innings of shutout ball in New York’s 6-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday. Syndergaard has been in terrific form of late, allowing just three earned runs over his last four starts (29.0 innings).
The Nationals, on the other hand, will have A.J. Cole as their starting pitcher tonight. He has stepped up big time in the absence of Stephen Strasburg, striking out 25 batters with seven walks in his last four starts. Cole has posted a 4.56 ERA over 23.2 innings during that span. He will look to replicate his performance against the Mets on September 2 wherein he allowed just a single run in six innings of action. The Nationals won that ballgame, 4-1.
Writer’s Prediction
The Mets ease past the Nationals. 6-2.
