Betting on the Texas A&M Aggies (-17.5)
Head coach Kevin Sumlin is basking in the silence of his critics. Considered a coach on the hot seat prior to the season, Sumlin has guided the Aggies to a 4-0 record, including a confidence-boosting 45-24 win over Arkansas on September 24.
Trevor Knight had a great outing against the Razorbacks, completing 12 of 22 passes for 225 yards with two touchdowns. It was the Aggies’ running game, however, that torched Arkansas’ defense to a toast, as Texas A&M picked up 366 yards on the ground. Expect more of the same from the Aggies this coming Saturday, considering that the Gamecocks are third worst in the SEC against the run. Conversely, Texas A&M is tops in the conference in rushing yards per game with 269.25.
Perhaps even impressive for the Aggies is their defense that has held opponents to only 16.0 points per game, 18th best in the nation so far this year. Their stout defense appears to be in for an overkill facing the Gamecocks’ pathetic attack that musters just 14.3 PPG.
The Aggies are 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall.
Betting on the South Carolina Gamecocks (+17.5)
A 17-10 loss to Kentucky on September 24 was just another symptom for the Gamecocks’ pathetic offense that is desperate to have anything going. In any case, South Carolina’s stop unit will have to remain sturdy while the offense remains stuck in a mud.
Quarterback Brandon McIlwain passed for only 177 yards on 15 of 30 completions while the Gamecocks’ offense as a whole squeezed out just 268 total yards before probably passing out on the field. But say what you want to say about their poor attack, they can still keep in step with Texas A&M with a vicious defense that gives up just 17.3 PPG.
Containing Knight will be a top priority for South Carolina. It should help the Gamecocks do just that with Darius English prowling on defense. English is second in the SEC in sacks with four on the season. There’s also the pair of T.J. Holloman and D.J. Smith who lead the team with 25 and 23 tackles, respectively.
The Gamecocks are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 games as the home team.
