Betting on Burnley (+650)
Burnley have been two distinctly different teams this season based on where they’re playing. They’ve lost both of their away games thus far 3-0, but to be fair, those games were against Chelsea and Leicester.
Meanwhile, they’ve been much better at home. Since losing the season opener to Swansea, they’ve gone undefeated in their last three (two wins and a draw). That includes a famous 2-0 win against Liverpool and a 2-0 win over Watford on Monday.
Manager Sean Dyche went with a very cautious 4-5-1 formation in their win against Watford, and relied on set pieces to get their goals. It’s hard to see anything changing tactics-wise as an in-form Arsenal come to visit. The Clarets will look to be as compact as possible to prevent the Gunners’ army of attacking midfielders from tearing them apart.
It’s not much of a winning formula, but it has been very effective in limiting goals on either side. The total has gone under 2.5 goals in 17 of Burnley’s last 19 Premier League games.
Betting on Arsenal (-310)
Suddenly, Arsenal’s +900 odds to win that elusive Premier League title are looking pretty appealing. They’re 4-0-0 in their last four Premier League games since going winless in their first two outings of the season, and are undefeated in their last eight (6-2-0) in all competitions since losing to Liverpool.
They come into their matchup with Burnley coming off two terrific home wins against Chelsea (3-0) in the Premier League and Basel (2-0) in the Champions League.
Theo Walcott has been an integral part of this outstanding run. He’s scored in each of his last three games, including both goals against Basel. With Sanchez playing as a false nine, and Walcott and Ozil offering support, the Gunners are playing with a swagger and fluidity in attack that’s been awesome to watch.
Arsenal have been fairly solid at the back away from home. They’ve conceded just twice in three away games thus far. They’ve also been fairly prolific on their travels, scoring at least two goals in 8 of their last 10 road games.
The Gunners will be afforded all the possession they want, and with the form they’re currently in, it feels like just a matter of time before they eventually break through the Burnley resistance.
Writer’s Prediction
Arsenal should win this quite comfortably in the end, but Burnley will make them work. The Gunners win 2-0, but for added value, take the total to go under 2.5 goals, which is +120.
