2016 NCAA Football Week Six Sleepers Predictions
BYU Cougars vs. Michigan State Spartans
Where: Spartan Stadium, East Lansing
Date and Time: Saturday, October 8, 3:30 PM ET

Confidence is high on the Spartans as they become 5.5-point favorites after opening with a -4 spread. And that’s despite coming into Saturday’s contest on the heels of back-to-back losses to Wisconsin and Indiana. This game could be dictated more by the intangibles with momentum on the side of BYU and pressure building up for Michigan State. The Cougars snapped a three-game skid with a 55-53 victory over Toledo last Friday.
BYU is also bringing an offense that has pumped out at least 500 yards in each of its last two outings so expect the Cougars to drill holes on Michigan State’s defense that let a middling Hoosiers squad rack up 437 total yards last week. With the spread having shifted in favor of BYU, now is a good time to lay some goodies on the Cougars.
Prediction: BYU wins, 31-28
Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners
Where: Cotton Bowl, Dallas

Hard to say that this game involves a sleeper, especially with two established programs about to do battle in a well-known rivalry match AKA The Red River Showdown. But with the perception of the Longhorns going sour largely because of Texas’ successive losses to California and Oklahoma State, the public might be overlooking the potential of Charlie Strong’s boys to upset. Remember, it wasn’t long ago when Texas took down then No. 10 Notre Dame in the season opener.
The Sooners’ questionable pass defense could also pave the way for a big game from Texas QB Shane Buechele, who has a QB rating of 150.4 on the season, completing 65.5 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and three interceptions.
Prediction: Oklahoma wins but Texas covers.
California Golden Bears vs. Oregon State Beavers
Where: Reser Stadium, Reser Stadium

The season hasn’t been good to the Beavers so far. They only have one win to date and enters Saturday’s contest looking to end a two-game losing streak. Oregon State’s latest loss was a 47-6 embarrassment at the hands of Colorado. California is going to be a tough matchup for Oregon State given Davis Webb’s smooth transition from playing in Lubbock to Cali combined with the Beavers’ obvious defensive troubles.
That being said, California has their own share of woes on defense as the Bears are allowing 38.6 points per game, the worst mark among Pac-12 schools. Even a lukewarm Beavers attack could navigate through gaps on California’s defense.
Prediction: California wins, 41-31.
