Betting on the Nebraska Cornhuskers (-3.5)
The Nebraska Cornhuskers will head to their Big Ten showdown with Indiana with momentum on their side after beating Illinois, 31-16, on Saturday. It was another impressive victory for the Cornhuskers, who improved their season-record to 5-0. They have won their first five games by an average of 19.4 points.
Key to Nebraska’s blistering start has been their incredible offense. The Huskers are 35th in the FBS in scoring, averaging 37.0 points per game this season. They have been lethal particularly in the fourth quarter, wherein they have outscored their opponents, 78-6. The Huskers displayed that endgame burst in the win against Illinois wherein they exploded for three touchdowns in the payoff period.
For the Huskers to preserve their unbeaten record against the Hoosiers, they will need to quickly establish their ground game this coming Saturday. They are 23rd in the FBS in rushing offense, averaging 234.2 yards per game on the ground this season. Nebraska rushed for 204 yards in the win against Illinois. Terrell Newby was superb for the Huskers in that victory, rushing for 140 yards on 27 carries with two scores. They will be licking their chops at the prospect of facing an Indiana defensive line that’s allowing 169.6 rushing yards per game this season, 73rd in the FBS.
Nebraska is 4-1-1 ATS in its last 6 games overall. The Cornhuskers are pegged at +6,000 to win the national championship this season.
Betting on the Indiana Hoosiers (+3.5)
Indiana’s playoff hopes were dealt a major blow on Saturday when it suffered a humiliating 38-17 defeat to Ohio State at Ohio Stadium. The Hoosiers had no answer for Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett who rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown on a career-high 26 carries. It was a disappointing result for Indiana who dropped down to 3-2 this season.
The Hoosiers will look to get their season back on track when they take on the red-hot Nebraska Cornhuskers this coming weekend. For Indiana to return to winning ways, it needs a much better performance from quarterback Richard Lagow. He completed just 14-of-28 passes for 182 yards and two scores with one costly interception in Saturday’s loss to the Buckeyes.
Apart from Lagow, the Hoosiers also need Devine Redding to produce a huge bounce-back game this coming Saturday. He was a non-factor in that embarrassing loss to Ohio State, rushing for just 78 yards on 22 carries. Indiana managed just 99 yards rushing in that game. Redding will fancy his chances, however, of regaining his form against the Huskers who are allowing 151.8 yards per game on the ground this season. That’s 55th in the FBS this campaign.
Indiana is 5-0 ATS in its last five conference games. The Hoosiers are pegged at +5,000 to win the Big Ten Conference championship game.
