Betting on the Detroit Pistons (+8)
Detroit’s losing woes show no sign of abating as the Pistons crashed to their second consecutive defeat with a 107-100 loss to Phoenix on Wednesday night. Eric Bledsoe scored 14 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter to help the Suns record the come-from-behind victory. It was another disappointing result for the reeling Pistons who had their three-game winning streak against the Suns snapped.
The Pistons will look to end their losing rut when they face the San Antonio Spurs this coming Friday. For Detroit to pull off a major upset, it needs to improve on its play on the defensive end. In their last three losses, opponents have scored an average of 110 points. All three of those defeats have come on the road. The Pistons are 0-4 away from home this season. They can ill afford such a defensive display against a San Antonio side that’s averaging 102.1 points per game this season.
With regards to their offense, the Pistons are expected to ride the hot hand of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. He scored a season-high 27 points in that loss to Phoenix, going 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. Also expected to contribute this Friday is big man Andre Drummond. He recorded his fifth double-double of the season against the Suns, scoring 18 points and hauling in 14 rebounds.
The Pistons are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games against the Spurs. Detroit is pegged at +10,000 to win the 2017 NBA Championship.
Betting on the San Antonio Spurs (-8)
Things are going from bad to worse for the San Antonio Spurs as they crashed to their third consecutive home defeat with a gut-wrenching 101-99 loss to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night. The Spurs had no answer for James Harden who recorded yet another triple-double, scoring 24 points, dishing out 15 assists and grabbing 12 rebounds. The Spurs have now dropped three of their last four games.
The Spurs will look to get their season back on track when they host the Detroit Pistons this coming Friday. For San Antonio to snap its losing skid, it needs to improve on its play on the defensive end. The Spurs have allowed 60 points or more in the first half in their last two outings. That’s the first time that has happened since April 1997. That’s quite astonishing since both of those games happened at their own home court. The Spurs lost just one game at AT&T Center last season.
The good news for the Spurs is that they’re starting to get their key personnel back. Danny Green made his season-debut Wednesday against the Rockets, recording eight points and four steals. Tony Parker is bound to make his much-anticipated return against Detroit after missing the last four games with a knee injury.
The Spurs are 1-3 ATS at home this season. San Antonio is pegged at +500 to win the 2017 NBA Championship.
Writer’s Prediction
The Spurs (-8) finally snap their three-game losing skid at home with a resounding 101-86 win.
