Betting on the TCU Horned Frogs (-5)

On Monday, the TCU Horned Frogs kept their undefeated season alive by beating the Illinois State Redbirds, 80-71.

TCU has won all four of their contests at home, and will now travel to Sin City for the opening round of the Global Sports Classic tournament against UNLV. The Horned Frogs better keep their sound composure intact this Friday, as they’ve lost 10 of their last 11 games away from Fort Worth (4-7 ATS).

So far, Texas Christian looks like a complete team on both sides of the ball. Seven players are averaging double-digit scoring this season behind some nifty dishes from its two point guards. Jaylen Fisher and Alex Robinson are each averaging 11.5 assists per game, which has translated to the Horned Frogs’ solid 51.3-percent field-goal percentage this season. Fisher, a former UNLV Rebel, will be instrumental in Friday’s match against his former school.

On the defensive end, TCU has been quite dominant on the boards, having out-rebounded their opponents by 9.5 boards per contest. The team will need to be agile in the post this Black Friday indeed, especially considering the wealth of firepower that the Rebels possess.

Betting on the UNLV Rebels (+5)

After the shocking season-opener loss to Southern Alabama, the UNLV Rebels have recovered from the upset with flying colors by reeling off three-consecutive wins. Their latest victory on Tuesday put an exclamation point on their current streak, routing the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks, 110-71.

Similar to TCU, UNLV has been quite an offensive force early on this season. The team is averaging 82.3 points per game, with most of their points coming from the charity stripe. The Rebels are averaging nearly 25 free-throw attempts and are converting a cool 75.8 percent of those shots.

Keep an eye on forward Christian Jones in Friday’s contest. Jones, who grew up near TCU’s campus in Arlington, is currently dealing with a sore foot and is listed as questionable for Friday’s game. Having him on the floor will be of great value for the Rebels, as he’s averaging 14 points per game on 64.3-percent shooting to go with seven rebounds as well.

The Rebels would be remiss to defend its home court as the hosts of the tournament, as they’ve won eight of their last 10 home games (5-5 ATS). If Jones won’t be able to suit up on Friday night, expect the team to struggle keeping up with the Horned Frogs in what appears to be a rather high-scoring affair.

Writer’s Prediction

The Horned Frogs (-5) advance to the final round of the Global Sports Classic tournament, 85-79.
