Betting on the Dallas Cowboys (TBA)
The Dallas Cowboys sent one more message to the rest of the league ahead of the postseason. Despite having the No. 1 seed in the NFC locked up, the Cowboys still crushed the Detroit Lions at home, 41-21. Just about every facet of Dallas’ prolific offense played its best as it overwhelmed the Lions D, especially in the second half.
It remains to be seen whether that game will be last time we see the likes of Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and Dez Bryant until the divisional round of the playoffs. If it is, though, Jason Garrett still has some fine stand-ins with the likes of Tony Romo and Darren McFadden almost certain to get some snaps.
Romo is set to step back onto the field for the first time since hurting his back in preseason, and may have some rust to shake off. Meanwhile, McFadden played in just his second game of the season against the Lions and rushed for 49 yards on 14 carries. He previously rushed for over 1,000 for the Cowboys last season, including 117 yards the last time he faced the Eagles.
However, don’t discount the Dallas defense’s ability to make some plays, especially against the Eagles’ shaky rookie quarterback Carson Wentz. The Dallas D has been having a lot of success getting to the quarterback lately. They have recorded four sacks in back-to-back games, while forcing six total turnovers.
Dallas has owned Philly in the Eagles’ own nest. The Cowboys are 6-1 (5-2 ATS) in their last seven visits to the Linc, and have won the last four in a row.
Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (TBA)
Despite not having anything left to play for, the Philadelphia Eagles didn’t give their division rival New York Giants a free pass as they beat them 24-19 at home. That win, coincidentally, allowed the Cowboys to clinch the NFC East.
The Eagles defense did a number on the Giants offense, as they forced Eli Manning to three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. The Philly D has been one of the best in the league this season per DVOA.
However, the Eagles offense struggled to move the ball once again. They could only rack up 286 total yards against a very good Giants defense. Carson Wentz looked like an overmatched rookie for the second straight game has he threw for just 152 yards and completed only 54 percent of his passes.
The Eagles had just 291 yards in their first meeting with the Cowboys, but they were enough to force overtime in a 29-23 loss.
The defense was able to keep them in the game before eventually wearing down. But if Dallas rests its offensive stars as expected, the Philly D should stand a better chance of containing the Cowboys for the entire game.
Writer’s Prediction
The Eagles end their season on a high with a 24-13 home win over the Cowboys.
