Alabama Crimson Tide (+400)
Was there any doubt that Alabama would have a fantastic haul from this year’s freshman class?
For the seventh-straight year, the Crimson Tide end up with the best recruitment class in the nation. Every young player dreams about being in the CFP, and the Tide can certainly make that happen, having been to all three of the NCAA’s College Football Playoffs and having won one national title at that.
As such, committing to ‘Bama was a no-brainer for the likes of five-star recruits in defensive end LaBryan Ray and wide receiver Devonta Smith. Heck, the team even had to offer a grey shirt to one of its four-star pickups (DE Jarez Parks), which goes to show that just about every aspiring talent wants to play under Nick Saban’s tutelage regardless of where they’ll fit in the bigger picture of the program.
Ohio State Buckeyes (+750)
Another school with a great history of success is Ohio State, which finished signing day with the second-most five-star recruits behind Alabama with five and with nearly half of its signees already having been enrolled for the next school year.
Although the Crimson Tide’s class is far superior in terms of quantity, the Buckeyes made sure that their acquisitions were of the highest quality instead as they grabbed a couple of top-flight cornerbacks in Jeffrey Okudah and Shaun Wade to shore up the secondary. 12th-ranked prospect Chase Young at defensive end rounds out their stellar recruitment class on D, and we haven’t even mentioned that they also got five-star quarterback Tate Martell to commit to the team as well.
USC Trojans (+750)
It was clear that after finishing with a 10-3 record and a win at the Rose Bowl last season, USC would draw a ton of attention from the field of incoming upstarts. And after National Signing Day, the Trojans did end up with a massive signing-day haul that’s no doubt the best from the entire Pac-12 conference to give second-year head coach Clay Helton plenty of ammunition to work with.
The team got solid upgrades at just about every position, headlined by five-star prospects Austin Jackson (OT), Jay Tufele (DT) and Joseph Lewis (WR). The team’s bevy of four-star recruits – 12 of them to be exact – is nothing to scoff at either. Having said that, the rebuilding Trojans are definitely off to a sizzling start as they continue to completely erase the bad memories from Steve Sarkisian’s regime.
Florida State Seminoles (+750)
Florida State didn’t turn as many heads as expected on signing day, but the team did catch the eye of one Marvin Wilson towards the end of the event.
Wilson, the No. 1 defensive tackle and sixth-overall prospect on the board, committed to the team late in the day to complement an already-outstanding recruitment class. The ‘Noles actually had another top-10 recruit in running back and No. 3 prospect Cam Akers prior to securing Wilson, which further illustrates that this decorated FSU program is far from falling off the radar of true CFP contenders.
