Betting on the Pittsburgh Pirates (12-15)

Moneyline: -115

The Bucs have dropped three in four games, including two out of the first three meetings of this series with the Reds. And during those losses, Pittsburgh’s been held to no more than three runs in each game—a testament to the team’s lack of consistency on offense.

On the season, the Pirates are just 23rd in the majors in scoring with around four runs per outing.

Rookie Josh Bell has been held to a single hit in his last three games after his four-game hitting run that featured two dingers. He bats relatively well (.250/.371/.404) against right-handers this year, though.

Speaking of righties, Ivan Nova (3-2, 1.50 ERA) is the man on the mound for Pittsburgh. He’s coming off his second complete outing of the season last weekend at Miami, where he threw nine scoreless innings and posted seven strikeouts for the second-straight time.

Betting on the Cincinnati Reds (13-14)

Moneyline: +105

Billy Hamilton and Devin Mesoraco provided the main highlights of Cincinnati’s 7-2 victory against the Pirates on Wednesday evening.

Both had one of their team’s three dingers of the game, which, finally, broke their respective home run droughts.  The other one was blasted by Eugenio Suarez, who has three homers along with six RBIs in his last 10 games. He’s batting .285 in that same stretch.

The Reds have now won three out of four games heading into this series finale, and they hope to improve that slate with Tim Adleman (0-1, 4.70 ERA). He was faulted for six runs (five earned) in over five innings of action against St. Louis last week.

Writer’s Prediction

Pirates (-115) win it, 7-1.
