For the past seven Red River Shootouts the Sooners are 5-2 outright, however the Longhorns are 4-0 against the spread (ATS) over the most recent four meetings, claiming a pair of wins while keeping the losses close. The Sooners are favored by a single TD in this Week 7 classic battle as they arrive in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas Texas.

Betting on the Oklahoma Sooners 4-1 (-7)
The Sooners ran into all kinds of problems–unexpectedly, it must be said–against Iowa State in a 38-31 home loss. Among them were injuries. Receiver CeeDee Lamb, running back Abdul Adams, safety Steven Parker, and linebacker Emmanuel Beal all missed key stretches of the game due to physical problems. The void left by Parker in the secondary became especially notable because replacement Chanse Sylvie missed multiple tackles that resulted in big, game-changing plays in the Cyclones’ favor.
Slightly depleted, Oklahoma’s defense watched ISU rack up 449 yards of total offense, including 368 through the air. The Sooners had previously allowed 523 yards of total offense and 41 points in a shootout win over Baylor. It was also the passing attack that proved unstoppable for the Bears, who flung it around to the tune of 463 yards.
Even with all of the problems they may have on defense, the Sooners offense continues to shine and take over when needed. That is one of the reasons why they stay undefeated for so long. With a tough loss against Iowa State, expect the Sooners to come back more than ever.
Betting on the Texas Longhorns 3-2 (+7)
It has been a wild ride in Texas as the Longhorns hold a 3-2 record as they opened up the season with a disastrous 51-41 loss to Maryland, but are slowly improving each week for the fans in Texas. Since that horrible start, the Longhorns have gone 3-1 with the lone loss coming against the ranked USC team which they nearly beat.
Texas has a lot of heart, and it showed in their 40-34 win against Kansas State. It was a quality win and now face a Sooners team that got their hopes and dreams crushed by Iowa State. This is
a perfect situation for Texas as they have an amazing opportunity to still be the top dog in the Big 12 if they are able to upset the Sooners.
Some of that heart is coming from true freshman quarterback Sam Ehlinger who accounted for 487 yards of total offense against the Wildcats defense. He’s putting up big numbers against any team, and the lights will be on him as he faces the strong Sooners club.
Writer’s Prediction
The Sooners are dealing with injuries and a horrible loss is still on their mind. I’m taking Texas and the points as QB Sam Ehlinger is going to have a game to tell his future kids about. Pick: Texas (+8.5)
