Betting on the Texas Tech Red Raiders (15-2)

Facing the Red Raiders is not a fun experience for opponents this season. The moment they step on the floor, the Red Raiders flummox opposing teams with their relentless defense that is largely the reason why Texas Tech is one of the top teams in the Big 12. The Red Raiders average 8.6 steals per game. They’re essentially like an entire team composed for 12 Patrick Beverleys. With that kind of no let-up style of defense, the Red Raiders are forcing opponents to turn the ball over 16.9 times per game. Texas Tech is just as deadly on the other end of the floor, as it is averaging 70.6 points per game on 48.9 field goal percentage. They even gave No. 2 West Virginia a dose of its own medicine last Saturday, when the Red Raiders made the Mountaineers commit 13 turnovers.

Betting on the Iowa State Cyclones (10-6)

Sure, Iowa State is winless in Big 12 play as of this writing, but the Cyclones have been compeititve in losses to soe of the conference’s better teams. They lost by just four points to Texas on Jan. 1 and by only five points to Kansas on Jan. 9.

Freshman Lindell Wigginton is a fantastic playmaker who could rescue the Cyclones whenever their offense becomes stagnant. Wigginton is averaging 16.5 points per game, and had a two-game stretch n which he scored 57 total points against Kansas and Baylor. The Red Raiders will have a target on Wigginton’s back, so senior Donovan Jackson must avoid going cold versus Texas Tech. He scored just three points on a salty 1-of-10 shooting from the field in the win over Baylor. In three games prior to that, however, Jackson averaged 24.6 points.

Writer’s Prediction:

Let’s be bold, shall we? Iowa State trips up Texas Tech, 76-73.
