Betting on the Wisconsin Badgers (10-11)

Wisconsin is up for a tough test in East Lansing this Friday, but that’s not a reason for Ethan Happ not to live up to the Badgers’ expectations. The junior forward is leading the Badgers this season with a near double-double averages of 16.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Happ does not have the great three-point range of former Badgers center Frank Kaminsky, but he has great court awareness for a big man with 3.7 assists per contest. Apart from Happ answering the call, the Badgers need their team to put up a great defensive effort against the high-scoring Spartans. The Badgers are allowing just 64.8 points per game to opponents, mainly by slowing the game into an almost unbearable pace. They have the second slowest pace in all of Division I basketball, and this deliberate tactic could kill Michigan’s momentum.  Wisconsin is 3-2 SU and 2-3 ATS in its last five meetings with Michigan State.

Betting on the Michigan State Spartans (18-3)

While the Badgers have Happ, the Spartans have Miles Bridges, who went off for 31 points on a near-flawless 11-of-13 shooting from the field to go with eight rebounds and two block in an 87-74 road win over the Illinois Fighting Illinis Monday. The Badgers will try to limit the Spartans’ possessions, but they can’t just take away a talent like Bridges that easily. The 6-foot-7 Bridges is going to be a matchup problem for the Badgers. Bridges has been toying with opponents for the most part this season, which is why he is putting up 16.7 points and grabbing 7.2 rebounds per game. The Badgers will also find it hard to dictate the tempo with Michigan State boasting a menacing frontline that features Jaren Jackson and Nick Ward, who makes life tough for opposing big men. With Jackson and Ward teaming up, the Spartans have become the best rebounding team in the conference with 44.7 boards per game. The Spartans are also No. 1 in the nation in blocks with 7.8 shot rejections per contest. It’s going to be hell for Happ this Friday in East Lansing. Michigan State is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction:

Michigan State wins, 71-60.
