Favorites – Eric Gordon / Klay Thompson
Eric Gordon and Klay Thompson have been shooting the lights out from deep all season long. Check that. They have been torching nets from behind the arc throughout their careers. Gordon is making 2.2 three-pointers per game on 37.4 percent accuracy since entering the league in 2008. He’s been terrific this season with the Rockets, making 3.0 threes per contest on 42.3 percent accuracy. As for Thompson, the one-half of the Splash Brothers is a career 42.3 percent three-point shooter. He is sinking 3.3 long bombs per game on a career-high 45.4 percent three-point shooting percentage. Oh, and have I mentioned already that Gordon (2017) and Thompson (2016) are former winners of this event?
Sleeper – Wayne Ellington
Wayne Ellington is mostly a sleeper because he is Wayne Ellington. Who thinks about Ellington? But whether fans pay attention to him or not, it’s undeniable that he has been a scary three-point threat for the Miami Heat this season. The 30-year-old veteran is averaging a career-high 11.2 points per game this season, and is shooting 2.9 threes per game on a 39.2 percent clip.
Long Shot – Tobias Harris
Tobias Harris is not among the top three-pointers in the league, but he could shoot from downtown nonetheless. Harris is 32nd in the NBA with 2.3 three-pointer per game and 85th with a decent 39.8 percent shooting percentage from the three-point region. Before he got traded by the Detroit Pistons to the L.A. Clippers, though, he was making 40.9 percent of his three-point attempts. On the season, Harris is averaging 18.1 points on 45.1 field goal shooting percentage.
Writer’s Prediction
Wayne Ellington tops the field and brings home a three-point even title to South Beach.
