Game 1: May 11, 7:07PM EST
Starters: Chris Sale (3-1, 2.02 ERA) vs. Aaron Sanchez (2-3, 4.14 ERA)
Pitching:
As always, Chris Sale turned in a sharp performance in his most recent start, allowing just an earned run on four hits while fanning 12 batters in seven innings of a 6-1 road win over Texas on May 6. He wasn’t as good on May 26, though, when he allowed three earned runs on four hits with only four strikeouts in a 5-4 road win in Toronto on Apr. 26. Aaron Sanchez, meanwhile, was pulled after just 3.2 innings in a 5-3 road loss to Tampa Bay on May 5, as he gave up two earned runs on five hits while issuing four free passes. He allowed two earned runs on three hits with eight K’s in six innings of a 4-3 loss at home vs. Boston on Apr. 25.
Hitting:
- Josh Donaldson is 7-for-27 with four homers against Chris Sale.
- Mookie Betts is 6-for-21 with two doubles against Aaron Sanchez.
Writer’s Prediction:
Boston wins 4-1.
Game 2: May 12, 4:07PM EST
Starters: TBA vs. Marco Estrada (2-2, 5.21 ERA)
Pitching:
As of this writing, the Red Sox have yet to name their pitcher for this game. The club wants us to think that Price will return to the lineup before the week is over, which has some speculating that he’ll start on the mound, even if he’s pulled early to nurse his ailing (read; tingling) hand. On the other side, Toronto will send Marco Estrada to the mound for Game 2 of this series. Estrada did not allow a run in his last start, but had trouble with his control as he walked four batters in six innings of a 2-1 win over Tampa Bay on May 6. He was roughed by the Red Sox for five earned runs on eight hits in five innings during a 5-4 loss at home on Apr. 26.
Hitting:
- Hanley Ramirez is 10-for-29 with three four against Marco Estrada
Writer’s Prediction:
Blue Jays sneak one in the middle, 3-2.
Game 3: May 13, 1:07PM EST
Starters: Drew Pomeranz (1-1, 5.23 ERA) vs. Marcus Stroman (0-5, 7.71 ERA)
Pitching:
Drew Pomeranz picked up a no-decision in his last start, as he allowed two earned runs on four hits with six K’s in six innings of a 3-2 road loss to the Yankees on May 8. Marcus Stroman is having a tougher season, as he has gone winless in all seven starts, though, Toronto’s anemic offense could be partly blamed. While he has given up seven runs on 15 hits in his last two starts, Toronto was not able to score in both of those games.
Hitting:
- Justin Smoak is 4-for-11 with four drawn walks against Pomeranz.
- Xander Bogaerts is 10-for-26 with two doubles and a homer against Stroman.
Writer’s Prediction:
Boston wins, 5-3.
Writer’s Overall Series Prediction
Boston takes Toronto, 2 games to 1.
