TCU Horned Frogs vs Texas Longhorns Predictions, Picks, Odds and NCAA Football Betting Preview – September 22 2018

The Texas Longhorns are unlikely to make it to the top 25 in the AP Poll this week even after their upset win over the USC Trojans last Saturday, but a victory over the TCU Horned Frogs should do the trick for them. The question, however, is whether the Horned Frogs allow Texas to be take them out. TCU will arrive in Austin motivated to return to its winning ways after getting tripped up by the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Betting on the TCU Horned Frogs (2-1 Overall)

In a highly anticipated Big Ten-Big 12 showdown last Saturday, it’s the Horned Frogs who faltered, as they suffered a disappointing 40-28 loss at the hands of Ohio State.  The Horned Frogs had a one-point lead coming out of the halftime, but carelessness of the offense and errors doomed the team as early as the third quarter, when TCU was outscored by the Buckeyes, 20-14. TCU quarterback Shawn Robinson had 308 passing yards and a touchdown, but also threw a pair of interceptions, one of which was an ill-advised pass that was returned for a touchdown by Ohio State. Despite the loss, TCU still flashed how great it can be offensively, as they racked up 511 total yards on offense, including 203 on the ground. Junior running back Darius Anderson balled out with 154 rushing yards and two rushing scores against Ohio State, while Sewo Olonilua added 39 rushing yards and a TD. Key for TCU against Texas is cutting down on turnovers and forcing the Longhorns to commit errors.

The Horned Frogs are 4-2 ATS in their last six games as the underdog.

Betting on the Texas Longhorns (2-1 Overall)

What a way for Texas to capture the program’s 900th win: by an upset. The unranked Longhorns downed the visiting USC Trojans at home on Saturday, 37-14. The Longhorns entered the game as a 3.5-point home underdog, but flipped the script on the Trojans, thanks to their incredibly stout ground defense. USC finished the game with a five negative rushing yards. That kind of defense should serve Texas well against TCU’s robust running game. If they the Longhorns can take away TCU’s ground attack, the Horned Frogs will be forced to air it out and risk possessions against the Texas’ pass rush that generated three sacks against USC. Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger completed only 15 of 33 passes but had two touchdowns and zero interceptions. Texas are riding a wave of momentum into next week’s matchup with TCU, and the fact that the Longhorns do not have to hit the road for their next game is a big plus.

Texas is 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS in its last four home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Texas wins, 31-24.
