Betting on the Oklahoma Sooners (5-1 Overall / 2-1 Conference)
The Sooners stumbled to their first loss of the season last Saturday, falling prey to the Texas Longhorns, 48-45. The good news for the Sooners despite the loss is that it happened relatively early in the season, meaning they have plenty of time and chance to get back up and put themselves in contention for the College Football Playoff. That said, a loss this coming weekend at the hands of unranked TCU could potentially put them in a hole they could not get out to warrant a CFP look at the end of the regular season. Nevertheless, the Sooners’ offense remains incredible. Against the Longhorns, Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray went 19-of026 for 304 yards and four touchdowns against just an interception. Murray also accounted for 92 of his team’s 222 rushing yards while also rushing for one of the Sooners’ two touchdowns on the ground. No team has yet to figure out how to slow down the Sooners’ offense, which is second in the FBS with 49.0 points per game.
The over is 6-1 in Oklahoma’s last seven games.
Betting on the TCU Horned Frogs (3-3 Overall / 1-2 Conference)
The Horned Frogs saw their eight-game unbeaten streak at home end last Saturday, as they took a 17-14 loss to the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Horned Frogs, however, could be feeling more confident in their defense that has shown marked improvement of late. They are allowing 22.8 points per game this season, but have allowed no more than 17 points in each of their past two outings. In the Texas Tech game, TCU held the Red Raiders down to only 353 total yards. For comparison, the Red Raiders are eighth in the nation in total yards with over 520 a game. The Sooners have a juggernaut offense, but TCU seems like a team capable of putting the clamps on Murray and company. The best defense, however, is always going to be by not putting the ball in the hands of the opponent, which TCU struggled to do in the Texas Tech game in which the Horned Frogs committed three turnovers.
The under is 3-0 in the Horned Frogs’ last three home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Oklahoma wins, 33-27.
