Texas State Bobcats vs Texas A&M Aggies Predictions, Picks, Odds, and NCAA Football Betting Preview – August 29 2019

The Texas State Bobcats enter a new era as they will kick off the reign of head coach Jake Spavital with a road game in College Station against No. 12 Texas State Aggies. The Aggies can consider this game as a preparation for a rematch with the Clemson Tigers in Week 2 of the season, but they can’t ignore the Bobcats too much. The Bobcats are +1000 to win the Sun Belt conference, while the Aggies are +7500 to win the national title.

Betting on the Texas State Bobcats (0-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference)

The Bobcats are the huge underdogs in their season-opening match against Texas A&M, but they will carry some measure of optimism. For one, they have a new head coach in Jake Spavital. He is very familiar with the surroundings in College Station, as he was a former offensive coordinator for the Aggies. In fact, he was also the quarterbacks coach of the Aggies when Johnny Manziel won the Heisman Trophy in 2013. Spavital will have an offense that returns all of the boys back. Spavital is experienced in being a part of a high-flying offense, as he’s also had stops in Oklahoma State, Houston, and West Virginia, so expect the Bobcats to have more pop in their attack than in 2018, when they averaged just 309.7 total yards per game. On defense, Spavital will have at his disposal an experienced crew that will feature all of the 12 players recorded 23 or more tackles last season.

The Bobcats are 6-3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 games.

Betting on the Texas A&M Aggies (0-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference)

Kellen Mond is the man fo the Aggies again this season, and if the expected improvement in this game due to experience and maturity are going to manifest right away, the Bobcats are in for a long night in College Station. Last season, Mond passed for 3,107 yards and 24 touchdowns with nine interceptions. Mond will also have a receiving corps that’s teeming with potential. Although Jace Stenberger, who led the team in receptions in 2018, is now in the NFL, the Aggies still have Quartney Davis. The hulking 6-2 wide receiver finished second in Texas A&M last season in catches. Davis will be joined downfield by other returnees like Camron Davis and Jhamon Ausbon, who both stand 6-2. The offensive line has plenty to prove, but the Texas State game is not going to be the one which will expose it. The Bobcats were second last in the Sun Belt conference in 2018 with just 15.0 sacks.

The Aggies are 3-1 ATS in their last four games.

Writer’s Prediction

The Aggies win, 49-21.
