The Alabama Crimson Tide have been untouched so far this season, as expected based on their schedule over the first few weeks of the campaign. Up next for the Crimson Tide are the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, who will be looking to shock the nation if they could beat Nick Saban’s boys. Betting on the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (0-0 Overall / 2-1 Conference)
After losing to the Mississippi State Bulldogs, the Golden Eagles righted their ship by defeating the Troy Trojans on the road last week, 47-42. Wide receiver Quez Watkins made loud noises on the field for Southern Mississippi, as he recorded an astounding total of 209 receiving yards and two touchdowns on just seven catches. A talent like that will surely be a marked one by Alabama’s defense, so other playmakers will have to step up for the Golden Eagles. Jaylond Adams also had a fantastic game against the Trojans, finishing with 180 receiving yards on 11 receptions. Southern Mississippi likes to get huge yards on single plays. They are seventh in the nation with an 11.9 yards per pass average and sixth with 374.0 passing yards per game. It will take something next to a miracle for the Golden Eagles to completely cripple Alabama’s defense, but they can make their presence felt, as they have 11 sacks already on the season.
The Golden Eagles are 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four games.
Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (1-0 Overall / 3-0 Conference)
Alabama got another dominant win last week by destroying the South Carolina Gamecocks in Tuscaloosa, 47-23. The Crimson Tide weren’t threatened at all by the Gamecocks, as they led from beginning to end. Tua Tagovailia added to his Heisman Trophy candidacy by torching South Carolina’s defense for 444 passing yards and five touchdowns without an interception on 28 of 36 completions. DeVonta Smith and Henry Ruggs demolished the Gamecocks’ secondary with 136 and 122 receiving yards, respectively, and combined for three touchdowns. In the Golden Eagles’ win over Troy, the Trojans were able to compile 514 passing yards. As a much superior team than Troy, Alabama should have zero problems splitting Southern Mississippi’s pass defense.
The Crimson Tide are 3-2 ATS in their last five home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Alabama wins, 53-10.
