Despite a win in Week 5, the Michigan Wolverines are still in need of more success for the committee to respect them again. They can gain much of that if they managed to take down the No. 14 Iowa Hawkeyes at home this coming weekend. Read on for more about this matchup below.
Betting on the Iowa Hawkeyes (4-0 Overall / 1-0 Conference)
Iowa zoomed into their fourth-straight win last Saturday, as they defeated the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders at home, 48-3. Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley had 276 passing yards and two touchdowns without an interception on 17-of-25 completions, while the backfield churned out 351 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 51 carries. The Hawkeyes gave their running backs plenty of work due to the landslide nature of the game, but they should still go for their ground attack against Michigan. After all, the Wolverines’ defense is allowing 208.7 rushing yards per game — just 102nd overall in the nation. Iowa State is 60th nationally with 28.7 points per game and 64th with 405.3 total yards per contest. Against the Blue Raiders, Toren Young pace the Hawkeyes with 131 rushing yards on 11 carries, while two others each had at least 91 rushing yards for Iowa.
The Hawkeyes have seen the total go over in three of their last four games away from home.
Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (3-1 Overall / 1-1 Conference)
After getting embarrassed in a 35-14 road loss in Madison to the Wisconsin Badgers, the Wolverines got up and mercilessly crush the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at home last Saturday, 52-0. It was a breeze of a game for the Wolverines, as one could clearly tell from the score alone, but Shea Patterson still threw an interception, which was a letdown, considering the quality of their opponent. He finished with 276 passing yards and a touchdown on 14-of-23 completions. The Wolverines also ran the ball well, producing 141 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 41 carries. Iowa’s defense isn’t as lame as Rutgers’, but Michigan has the talent to torch any opponent on the ground. Freshman Zach Charbonnet leads the Wolverines with 196 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the season, though, he has only rushed for 28 total yards on seven carries over the last two games.
The Wolverines are 6-4 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 home games.
