Expert Picks and Predictions for the 2020 Australian Open Men’s Singles Tennis Tournament
Tennis Pro Guru
Pick: Novak Djokovic
Unless Djokovic suffers an injury or any unforeseen event that would severely hurt his chances, Tennis Pro Guru thinks that there’s no stopping the Serbian in the 2020 Australian Open.
“Novak Djokovic will be again the winner of the Australian Open. Barring an unexpected injury, he will be prepared to beat anyone.”
Although Tennis Pro Guru is aware of the rise of Daniil Medvedev, who’s currently ranked fourth in the world, they believe that this is not the tournament where he’ll have his breakthrough in Grand Slam competition. Rather, Tennis Pro Guru sees Djokovic defending his crown in Melbourne successfully this 2020.
Tim Henman – BBC Sport
Pick: Novak Djokovic
Henman of BBC Sport is also picking the overall favorite in the 2020 Australian Open men’s singles tournament to bag the crown –again. Per Henman, Djokovic’s “record is so good down under,” and that he tennis superstar has afforded “enough time” to heal up from injuries and physical aches just in time to show up in top form in the Grand Slam in Australia.
Louis Sealey – Metro UK
Pick: Novak Djokovic
At 32 years old, Djokovic continues to win the confidence of experts like Louis Sealey of Metro UK, who’s not expecting to see the defending Australian Open champion slow down, saying that the upcoming tournament is going to be proof of that.
“We’ve become accustomed to seeing Djokovic stamp his authority on the tennis season by winning the Australian Open, and 2020 could be no different. Victory at the Australian Open could well mark the start of another year of dominance for undoubtedly the best male player in the world.”
Jelena Dokic – Former ATP Pro
Pick: Rafael Nadal
Former professional player Jelena Dokic certainly qualifies as an expert in the sport. After all, she’s played in all Grand Slam events and even managed to reach the semifinals of Wimbledon in 2000 and the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in 2009. But unlike most other experts, Dokic predicts someone who doesn’t go by the name of Novak Djokovic will win the 2020 Australian Open, and that’s no other than Rafael Nadal.
“Rafa won here in 2009, he hasn’t won since, but he’s been in five finals. I feel like he’s been a little unlucky here in Australia, playing well but getting injured. I think he deserves to win more than anyone here. So I’ve got to go with Rafa.”
Nadal only has one Australian Open title, which he won in 2009, but came close to winning another last year, when he fell short in the finals against Djokovic. In fact, Nadal has four runner-up finishes in the tournament.
