Betting on the Las Vegas Raiders (-2.5)

Regular Season Record: 7-8

It’s been another failed season for Jon Gruden and the Raiders, but Week 17 gives them a chance to at least go into the offseason off of a victory. The Raiders have lost their last three games. Last Sunday, they lost to the Miami Dolphins at home, 26-25. In fact, all of those three losses were in Las Vegas, so perhaps a change of scenery, even if it’s enemy territory, could be beneficial for Las Vegas, which beat the Broncos at home back in Week 10, 37-12. In that game, the Raiders’ ground attack did the heavy lifting, as Josh Jacobs and Devontae Booker combined for 193 rushing yards and four rushing scores, while splitting 37 carries. Given Denver’s poor run defense, expect the Raiders to pound the ball a lot again to their running backs. The Broncos are 26th against the run with 131.6 rushing yards allowed per game.

The Raiders are 4-1 straight up in their last five road games. They are 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 games away from home.

Betting on the Denver Broncos (+2.5)

Regular Season Record: 5-10

Like the Raiders, the Broncos are coming off a loss in Week 16, losing to the Los Angeles Chargers on the road, 19-16. Turnovers have been a big problem for Denver this season, particularly to quarterback Drew Lock. The young signal-caller passed for 264 yards and zero touchdowns on 24-of-47 completions while also tossing two interceptions. Lock threw four interceptions in the loss to the Raiders in Week 10, and you can bet, head coach Vic Fangio is stressing every week to his team how it is not ideal for a football team to give the ball to their opponents. On the season, the Broncos are averaging 3.2 turnovers per game — the most in the NFL. Turnovers aside, Lock can sometimes provide a brilliant performance, and that might just show in this rematch with the Raiders, whose defense is really nothing to write home about, especially it’s secondary. The Raiders are 25th in the league with 259.2 passing yards allowed per game.

The over is 3-2 in the Broncos’ last five home games.

Bet on the Denver Broncos

Writer’s Prediction

The Raiders win, 27-23.
