Herring will be making his third title defense this coming weekend, and he’s looking to win in a more convincing manner this time around. The last time he was inside the ring, Herring managed to score a win over Jonathan Oquendo via disqualification. The challenger repeatedly tried to head-but the champion, resulting in that dull conclusion of the contest. Herring, a former US Marine who had a couple of tours in Iraq, first won the WBO super featherweight title when he defeated Japan’s Masayuki Ito in Florida back in 2019 via unanimous decision. He successfully defended his belt against Lamont Roach Jr., also by way of a unanimous decision victory. As what Herring’s record suggests, he’s not actually a big knockout artist, but he knows how to find angles to land clean shots. Herring will have a very significant seven-inch reach advantage when he meets Frampton on Saturday. Moreover, Herring is taller by five inches at 5’10”.

Betting on Carl Frampton (-135)

Total fights: 29

Wins: 28

Wins by KO: 16

Losses: 2

Draws: 0

Yes, he’s got a much shorter reach and stands way smaller than Herring, but you can’t question the skills and heart of Frampton, the fighting pride of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Speaking of which, Frampton is the first fighter out of Ireland to win two world titles in two different weight classes, having held the IBF’s super bantamweight title and the WBA’s featherweight belt simultaneously before. He then won the WBO’s featherweight title three years ago, when he defeated Filipino Nonito Donaire (UD) in Belfast. Frampton knows that Herring will be trying to keep the fight at a distance and use his physical advantages, but there will be moments that Frampton will be able to cut the space between them and fight inside, where the Irishman is a massive threat. Frampton will not be looking for a knockout here, but he’s got 16 knockout wins in his ledger, so you know he has what it takes to put Herring to sleep.

Writer’s Prediction
