As we prep for March Madness, we’re taking a closer look at the college basketball teams that will affect your bracket the most. We’ll be looking at several elements of each team, starting with Syracuse today. See all our Syracuse articles here.
Syracuse Orange’s MVP: Tyler Ennis
Tyler Ennis, Syracuse’s 19-year old rookie, has been making headlines. Not only because of his dramatic, late-game heroics, but also for being the unassuming best player he is on a team that has so much to prove in its first season in the ACC.
When Michael Carter-Williams departed for the NBA draft after the Orange’s Final Four exit last season, coach Jim Boeheim was faced with a problem of finding a replacement at the point guard position. Carter-Williams’ averaged 11.9 PPG and 7.3 assists, big numbers that needed to be covered if the Orange wanted to be a contender again the following season.
Enter Ennis, a freshman out of Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Thus far, Ennis is averaging 11.8 PPG, 5.7 APG, and 3.3 RPG. He leads the ACC in assists and steals (2.0 SPG).
With Ennis playing so well, Jabari Parker is considered just the second best freshman in the ACC by some.
The Madness isn’t upon us yet, but based on what the super freshman has shown so far in his first year, much of the Orange’s hopes to win the national championship are pinned on Ennis’ shoulders.
