Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (odds)
Record: 4-0 Overall / 1-0 Conference
The Wolverines got the job done in their first game against a Big Ten opponent, as they took down the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at home last Saturday, 20-13. Michigan entered the game with a rushing attack that was averaging 350.3 rushing yards per game but muscled out just 112 yards on 38 carries for just 2.9 yards per rushing attempt against Rutgers. The Wolverines did manage to score twice on the ground, though. Cade McNamara passed for 163 yards on 9/16 completions without a touchdown nor an interception. If the Rutgers game was an indication, it’s that McNamara might have to throw the ball more in Big Ten play going forward. Defensively, the Wolverines could pounce on Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz who imploded in the Badgers’ loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish over the weekend.
Michigan is 3-1 against the spread in its last four games overall. The under is also 4-1 in the Wolverines’ last five contests.
Betting on the Wisconsin Badgers (odds)
Record: 1-2 Overall / 0-1 Conference
The Badgers are now 0-2 against ranked opponents this season. They lost to the Penn State Nittany Lions earlier this month at home, 16-10, and lost to Notre Dame Saturday, 41-13. Sandwiched in between those games was a 34-7 home win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles. The main focus for now for the Badgers is on how to get their offense going again after going 1/14 on third downs and committing five turnovers against Notre Dame. Well, Michigan didn’t look good defensively against unranked Rutgers in a game the Wolverines looked shaky on both ends of the field from beginning to end. Wisconsin could also turn to its run game. Despite rushing for just 78 yards against the Fighting Irish, the Badgers can feel confident in their ground attack opposite Michigan’s defense that gave up almost 200 rushing yards on 42 carries to Rutgers.
Wisconsin is 8-2 straight up in its last 10 games as the home team, dating back to 2019.
Writer’s Prediction
Michigan wins, 28-24.
