Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (-17)
Record: 5-1 Overall / 2-1 Conference
Alabama is undefeated no more as the Crimson Tide got stunned in College Station last Saturday, losing to the Texas A&M Aggies to the tune of a 41-38 score. Bryce Young’s numbers look good even in the loss. He ended up with 369 passing yards and three touchdowns with an interception on 28/48 completions. Regardless of what happened in the Texas A&M game, it’s clear that Alabama can move the chains. There are minor hiccups for the Crimson Tide on that end of the field, but nothing that can’t be taken care of with a week of planning and practice. Defensively, Nick Saban must definitely be disappointed with how Alabama performed against the Aggies, though Mississippi State doesn’t look like it can dominate the Crimson Tide’s stop unit. Mississippi State, which already has losses to the Memphis Tigers and LSU Tigers this season, is only 11th in the SEC with 27.8 points per game. Alabama is second with 44.3 points per contest.
Alabama is 5-1 against the spread in its last six games against Mississippi State overall.
Betting on the Mississippi State Bulldogs (+17)
Record: 3-2 Overall / 1-1 Conference
After consecutive losses to Memphis and LSU, Mississippi State stopped the bleeding and scored a huge 26-22 win over then-No. 15 Texas A&M on the road on Oct. 2. What followed for the Bulldogs is two full weeks of preparation for their toughest test this season in the form of the Crimson Tide. Quarterback Will Rogers was magnificent in the Texas A&M game, as he threw for 408 yards and three touchdowns without an interception on 46/59 completions. Makai Polk burned the Aggies’ secondary with a brilliant performance that produced 126 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 13 catches. The Bulldogs’ rushing attack only had 30 yards on 17 carries, but it’s always about the air up there for Mississippi State’s offense that is No. 1 in the nation in pass play percentage and passes per game. It’s also fifth nationally with 372.4 passing yards per game. The Bulldogs have five players who have at least 200 receiving yards and eight with at least 120.
Mississippi State is 3-1 against the spread in its last four road games.
Writer’s Prediction
Alabama wins, 28-14.
